Walking On A Tile Roof

Recently a homeowner called our office about a problem with their home. The gutter on their new home was not draining properly. Turned out the inlet to the downspout was blocked by plastic clips from christmas decorations. We also found $500 worth of broken roof tiles. They had a company put up their holiday lights this year.

It's best never to allow anyone to walk on your tile roof unless they are performing roof repairs or cleaning. There is a way to walk on roof tile to avoid damage. Roofers and cleaners know how to do this. Usually, the more a worker weighs the more roof tile damage they do.

If you are walking on your own tile roof, do not step in the valley areas or in the middle of an individual tile. The best place to step on an individual roof tile is where two tiles overlap. Because the two roof tiles are overlapped it is the strongst place to step.

Unfortunately, there is no fool proof system for walking on a tile roof, so being light weight is vital. Fortunately, with new roof tile systems that have a waterpoof, peel and stick membraine installed under the roof tile, the roof tile itself is mostly cosmetic.
