Thermopane vs Single Pane Windows

30% of a typical custom homes, total energy loss is through it's windows. Installing Theromopane, Low- E windows will lower your total energy costs but it takes almost 20 years to recover the initial investment. That's a 20 year payback period!

On the other hand, eliminating just one 3' x 6' window opening equals the same energy savings as upgrading windows from single glaze to Thermopane, Low- E glass. 

That's really amazing! The lesson here is be aware of window sizing in your exterior walls and don't upgrade windows unless you expect to stay in your home for at least 20 years or your home resale market dictates that upgrade.
